While TCU is still a year away from joining the Big East Conference, it appears the move to a BCS conference for the football team, coupled with their 2011 Rose Bowl Championship, has paid off in recruiting. The ESPN 150 Class of 2012 was unveiled this week, which ranks the top 150 high school prospects in the country.

While many on the list have yet to commit to a school, TCU has already secured two recruits on the list. The Frogs only had one recruit, wide receiver LaDarius Brown, in the ESPN 150 in the 2011 class.

Devote Fields, a defensive end out of Martin High School in Arlington, is ranked No. 69 on the list, and rated as the seventh best defensive end in the country. Fields currently has a verbal commitment to the university. Other schools that have pursued him include the Oklahoma Sooners and Michigan Wolverines.

Fields orally committed to the university in April.

Tyler Matthews, the other commit on the list, is a quarterback out of McPherson High School in McPherson, Kan. Matthews is ranked at No. 108 in the country, and the seventh best quarterback recruit in the nation.

According to Scouts Inc., a scouting company, Matthews is “A tough player with good leadership skills… poise, confidence, a great delivery and has big upside to have his best football in front of him.”

Matthews was also considered by the Kansas State Wildcats before eventually deciding on TCU.

Matthews also orally committed to the university in February.

So far, the Horned Frogs have 11 verbal commitments for their 2012 recruiting class. They are coming off their best recruiting class in school history, finishing with the 26th best class in the country, according to Rivals.com.
