Senior Jessica Young and the rest of the Horned Frog team shrugged off delays wrought by inclement weather Saturday and brought TCU’s 2010-2011 year in athletics to a close. Young’s bronze medal in the women’s 100 meters marked the best performance by a Frog since she finished as runner up in 2009.

“We are very pleased with Jessica getting third place and running 11.14 at the NCAA meet,” TCU head coach Darryl Anderson said. “That is a great accomplishment for her. She had the opportunity to win. She was leading the race, but she kind of broke down in the last 15 meters or so and allowed them to get back to her. That is something, from a technical standpoint, that we will easily fix and it seems like she’s gotten herself dialed back in. Now, we will just move forward and see if we scored enough to crack the top-20. It’s going to be close.”

Young, from Colombia, S.C., finished mere hundredths behind runner-up Kimberlyn Duncan of LSU (11.09) and Candyce McGrone of Oklahoma (11.08). The time also nearly broke TCU’s record of 11.08, set in 1993 by Beverly McDonald.

Young is a 7-time All-American.

Junior Whitney Gipson also collected another All-American honor, her third, in the women’s long jump.

Beyond those two individuals, the 4×400 relay team earned second-team All-America honors by clocking a time of 3:35.60 seconds. The team, which consisted of freshman Briyanni Thomas, Kristal Juarez, Teneshia Peart and Quinterra Charles, crossed the finish line for 15th-place at Drake Stadium.

Although all individual events have concluded, the final standings have not yet been released. Anderson said the team is hoping for a top-20 finish to polish off the year for TCU athletics.
