Senior Jessica Young has been selected as the 2011 Mountain West Women’s Outdoor Track & Field Student-Athlete of the Year, the league announced Thursday.
“This is an outstanding achievement for Jessica to end her Mountain West Conference career,” TCU head coach Darryl Anderson said. “It is a great honor for her and for our program. It really puts a cherry on top of all of her accomplishments that she achieved in the Mountain West while she competed. We are very excited for her and we wish her well in her future pursuits in track & field.”
Young finished third overall in the 100-meter dash with a time of 11.14 seconds at the NCAA Championships in Des Moines, Iowa. The seven-time All-American qualified for the national meet in the 100 meters and 200 meters, while also contributing on the Frogs’ 4×100 relay. Young was a standout at the MWC Championships, collecting gold medal honors in the 100-meters, 200-meters and as the 4×400 relay anchor.
Young will be one of four Frogs competing this weekend at the USA Outdoor Track & Field Championships in Eugene, Ore. Mychal Dungey, Charles Silmon and Whitney Gipson will join also be competing.
