TCU won their twenty second game of the season behind the stellar performance of starting pitcher Steven Maxwell. Maxwell won his fifth game this season lowering his era to 3.00 on the season. He dominated the Lobos hitters scattering nine hits and two earned runs in his complete game. He had eight strikeouts and no walks. New Mexico drops to 10-22 on the year.
Every Horned Frog had a hit. Jason Coats and Jantzen Witte extended the hitting streaks to twelve and nine games respectively. The Frogs ran wild over New Mexico with five stolen bases including Jerome Pena stealing home in the bottom of the sixth inning; Two from Brance Rivera, Two from Jerome Pena, and one from Zac Jordan.
New Mexico struck first in the third. Centerfielder Sam Wilson hit a leadoff triple and was scored by shortstop Alex Allbritton on an RBI groundout. Maxwell shut down the Lobos in the next inning by striking out the side. They would not score again until the top of the ninth when Lobos leftfielder Luke Campbell hit a solo blast with two outs. Mawell then got third baseman Quay Grant to ground out to short to end the game.
TCU responded with two runs in the fourth. Elander had an RBI double scoring Featherston. Elander was scored by an Aaron Schultz RBI single later in the inning. TCU would continue to score in the next four innings.
In the fifth Inning Talyor Featherston scored Witte on a RBI single.
In the bottom of the Coats and Elander each had RBI hits. They knocked out New Mexico starting pitcher Rudy Jarmillo who was replaced by Richard Olson. Jarmillo pitched well going 6 2/3 innings with six earned runs on ten hits. He had two strikeouts and no walks.
Despite the temperature getting as high as 99 degrees Horned Frogs fans came out in droves. 4,305 came through the gates this afternoon setting the 3rd highest series attendance record for Brown Lupton Stadium with 13,885 attending the series.
This was the last game of a 13 game homestand, in which the Frogs went 10-3. TCU will began a challenging 6 game road trip starting with a game vs. Oklahoma on Tuesday before traveling to San Diego State for a three game series and then traveling to College Station to take on Texas A&M
