Broadcast journalism major Kendall Morris was crowned the new Miss Texas by fellow Frog and 2010 Miss Texas, Ashley Melnick Friday night.

Morris is a familiar face to the thousands of people who watched her on as the featured twirler on national television throughout TCU's Rose Bowl festivities.

Morris, who plays three instruments, performed 'New World Symphony' on the piano for her talent.

Morris competed in the competition last year against Melnick and finished fourth. This time around she was the one left standing at the end, beating out two other Horned Frogs in the competition.

As part of the title, Morris will represent Texas in the Miss America pageant. Prizes include a $10,000 college scholarship and access to an Infiniti for a year, provided by Grubbs Infiniti dealership.

Jordan Johannsen, a May 2011 TCU alumna and Melnick's former roommate, was named third runner up. Johannsen placed second in the 2010 competition. During one of the breaks from the Miss Texas competition, Johannsen's little sister Reilly was named Miss Texas' Outstanding Teen 2011. Johannsen entered the competition Friday night with a first place in swimwear from the night before.

Horned Frog Kim Borge represented Texarkana in the competition, but did not advance into the top ten.
