After an impressive showing at the Nike SPARQ National Championship earlier this week, it appears the scouts are now paying attention to Daje Johnson, a 2012 commit for the Frogs.
The high school senior out of Pflugerville, Texas, jumped into the ESPNU 150 after posting some eye-popping numbers, including a 40-yard dash time of 4.35 seconds, and a vertical leap over 40 inches. Johnson was previously unranked in the initial ESPN rankings.
Johnson's is currently ranked the 144th best prospect in the country, and the 20th best running back recruit. Scouts have him graded as an 80 and a four-star prospect. According to the rating scale, a four-star recruit is someone who has the potential to be a three or four-year starter, and who has the skills to make a significant impact during his career.
The scouting report on ESPN’s recruiting site praises Johnson’s athletic ability and skill set.
“Johnson could be one of the more underrated backs this class has to offer with his terrific blend of speed, agility and explosive second gear he is a homerun threat waiting to happen,” according to the scouting report.
In addition, ESPN has the Frogs with currently the 11th best recruiting class in the country.
