A new Tex-Mex restaurant has opened on TCU’s campus in time for the new school year.

The new eatery, Frogorrito, replaced the sandwich shop Sub Connection on the first floor of Smith Hall during the summer. Junior Jennifer Mace had been planning to buy a salad at Sub Connection Wednesday when she discovered Frogorrito in its place. The nursing major said that she was excited to see something different.

Since Frogorrito is cheaper and comparable to Chipotle, students could walk to the restaurant instead of driving to get Tex-Mex food, Mace said.

TCU Dining Services Marketing Manager Kelly Raw said Sub Connection had been there for many years, but they wanted to shake things up for the students.

Raw said TCU Dining Services “felt like the students deserved something new, fresh, innovative and different.”

According to the TCU Dining Services website, Frogorrito serves breakfast, lunch and dinner on weekdays. The Frogorrito menu consists of burritos, nachos, burrito bowls, salads and sides.

Prices average about $6 for an entree, and accepts Campus Cash from students with meal plans.

“Restaurants like Chipotle and Freebirds are very popular with students, so why not go that route and come up with our own concept?” Raw said.

Students who ate at Sub Connection encountered long lines, so Raw said she knew something that was fast and simple was needed. So far, Frogorrito has proven to be fast enough to meet student demand, she said.

Raw said the other issue with Sub Connection was that it was competing with Which Wich, Potbelly and Subway, all of which are within walking distance from the university.

All of the food at Frogorrito is made fresh every day, and there are some great specials during the first three weeks of school, Raw said. 

On August 31, Frogorrito will be having a grand opening party with a Mariachi band and free samples, she said.

Sophomore political science major Graham McMillan said there were lots of changes over the summer. McMillian, the Dining Services Committee Chair for the Student Government

Association, said he was excited for what Frogorrito had to offer.

Students who have classes near Smith Hall do not want to walk all the way to the Commons to get some food, McMillan said.

“The burrito place should do the trick as far as getting in a nice meal before heading back to class,” he said

McMillan will voice the students’ opinions to SGA in order to make changes, he said.
