The TCU men’s and women’s cross country teams open up their seasons today when they travel to Denton to participate in the North Texas Metroplex Opener.
Both the men’s and women’s teams will be looking to rebound from a tough 2010 season that saw both squads finish last at the Mountain West Conference championships.
But the 2011 season may not be any easier.
On the men’s side, the Frogs were voted last in a Mountain West preseason coaches’ poll. The women’s squad did not fare much better, finishing sixth out of eight teams in the poll.
New Mexico, who swept both the men’s and women’s MWC championships a year ago, topped both the men’s and women’s preseason polls.
New TCU head coach Liz Wort, who was hired just last week, will have a solid foundation to build a program on, though.
Neither the men’s or women’s teams have any seniors, but the future may be bright for the Frogs.
Of the 26 runners listed on both the men’s and women’s rosters, 17 are freshmen and six are sophomores.
