Soccer team heads to Texas State

The TCU women’s soccer team will play in two games this weekend as the Frogs look to improve on their 1-2 start. TCU travels to Texas State on Friday and will then play host to Missouri on Sunday at 1 p.m. It will be the first time for TCU to play since falling 1-0 to Rice last Friday.

Besides the Rice game, TCU has defeated Lamar 2-0 and lost to Oklahoma State 1-0 in the season opener. The Texas State game gives TCU an opportunity to pick up their first win on the road.
In their first game of the weekend, the Frogs will find themselves taking on the 1-2 Bobcats in San Marcos. The Bobcats won their season opener against Prairie View A&M in impressive fashion, 6-0, but have recently lost to both Loyola Marymount and Navy. Texas State returns eight starters from a squad that went 12-8-1 last season, including a 6-3 home record.

On Sunday, TCU will be back in Fort Worth as Missouri comes to town. Mizzou won the Big 12 Championship in 2008 and 2009 and should prove to be a formidable test for the Frogs. The Tigers are 3-1 this season with their lone loss coming at #20 San Diego. Missouri has notched impressive victories over Purdue, #7 Ohio State, and Eastern Illinois.

Through three games, the Frogs’ stout defense has been led by goalkeeper Alicen Wright. The freshman has allowed only two goals on the season and notched her first career shutout in TCU’s 2-0 win over Lamar two weekends ago. However, the offense has been anemic at best, being shutout twice and averaging less than a goal per game. TCU head coach Dan Abdalla said the offense is a work in progress.

“We just need to keep working on [offense],” Abdalla said.

Sunday’s game against Missouri will be the 100th game played at TCU’s Garvey-Rosenthal Stadium. The Frogs are 50-39-10 overall since they began play at the complex in 2000.
