The Horned Frogs lost to Missouri 2-0 Sunday afternoon in front of the largest home crowd of the season at Garvey-Rosenthal Soccer Stadium.

TCU was shutout for the third time this year and dropped their record to 2-3.

Head coach Dan Abdalla said he was proud of the Frogs’ determination against the Tigers.

“I was proud of the effort our kids put in,” Abdalla said. “We [the coaches] challenged them to come out and battle, to look to combine and to be more aggressive offensively, and I thought, with very little preparation against a very good Missouri side, I thought we created enough chances to give ourselves a chance to win the game.”

Abdalla said that Missouri has a unique style of play and he took the blame for the loss Sunday afternoon because there wasn’t enough time to prepare the team.

“This one falls on our shoulders as the coaching staff because we prepared our team for the Friday night match, but we didn’t have an opportunity to turn around [and prepare for Missouri],” Abdalla said. “I thought that’s where our kids showed a lot of character and handled a unique system very well.”

Missouri broke through in the 8th minute when freshman forward Abi Raymer split the TCU defense with a lead pass to sophomore forward Alyssa Diggs. Diggs beat the last defender and slid a left-footed shot into the back of the net, giving Missouri a 1-0 lead.

The Tigers extended the lead to two in the 66th minute when freshman midfielder Taylor Grant scored her third goal of the season. Grant received a lead pass from Raymer, ran into the TCU penalty area and curled her shot around freshman goalkeeper Alicen Wright.

Despite conceding two goals Abdalla said TCU did a “great job” staying organized defensively against Missouri’s offensive speed.

“For the majority of the game I was extremely happy with how our whole team handled their pace,” Abdalla said.

The Frogs travel to Lubbock Friday to play Toledo and Hofstra in the Red Raider Classic. The next home game is Sept. 18 at 1 p.m. against Northwestern State.

Notes: The loss to Missouri was the 100th game played at Garvey-Rosenthal Soccer Stadium. Senior forward Jordan Calhoun returned to action Sunday playing 36 minutes. Freshman goalkeeper Alicen Wright gave up two goals for the first time as a Horned Frog. Freshman forward Dixie Kurrus missed her third straight game with a head injury. Sophomore midfielder Kristen Barg also sat out her second consecutive game with a head injury. TCU was outshot 19-16. Diggs and Grant, the two goal scorers for Missouri, are from the DFW area.
