The TCU women’s soccer team won the 2011 Red Raider Classic this weekend when they defeated Toledo and Hofstra in Lubbock, bringing their record to 4-3.
The Frogs have a winning record for the first time this year after sweeping the tournament, and they won both games 1-0 despite being outshot by both opponents.
Senior forward Jordan Calhoun started both games and netted the only goal in each match. Calhoun, TCU’s all-time leading goal scorer, was named the Offensive MVP of the tournament.
The Frogs had six total players collect awards with senior defender Katie Taylor winning the Defensive MVP award and freshman goalkeeper Alicen Wright taking the Goalkeeper MVP award.
Taylor was also named to the all-tournament team along with senior midfielder Alex Mechalske, junior midfielder Monica Alvarado and freshman defender Becca Rowland.
Calhoun and Taylor grabbed Mountain West honors for their performances this weekend, with Calhoun winning Offensive Player of the Week and Taylor taking the Defensive Player of the Week accolade.
The Horned Frogs travel to Nacogdoches Friday for their next match against Stephen F. Austin. The Ladyjacks are 3-2-1 and have not lost at home this season.
Notes: Calhoun started her first game Friday night since the Aug. 19 loss to Oklahoma State. Freshman forward Dixie Kurrus and sophomore midfielder Kristen Barg missed both games this weekend due to head injuries. Alicen Wright collected 11 saves total between both games.
