As student interest in Greek life increases, TCU Panhellenic is looking to expand its community by adding two new chapters on campus.

Over the last two weeks, Delta Phi Epsilon, Alpha Gamma Delta, Phi Mu and Alpha Omicron Pi hosted presentations for students, faculty and staff, Jordan McCarter, coordinator of Fraternity and Sorority Life, said.

An estimated 50 to 60 people were in attendance at the four presentations, McCarter said.

Starting next week, a selection committee made up of Panhellenic students, advisors and staff will begin discussing which two organizations will be invited to colonize at TCU, McCarter said.

The selection committee will look at the feedback received from evaluation forms that were handed out at each presentation as well as at how each organization meets the missions and goals of the university.

The majority in attendance were students, so it will be student opinion that filters through the evaluations of each organization, Shannon Sumerlin, director of Fraternity and Sorority Life, said.

”The committee will try and figure out who fits best in the TCU community,” Sumerlin said.

Dara Fulton, a sophomore communication studies and English literature double major, said it was exciting that national organizations are interested in TCU.

McCarter said adding two new chapters will help lower the average chapter size of other sororities to a more reasonable number.

“We are used to being in a community at TCU where everyone knows everybody and it is friendly and everybody has an opportunity to get to know one another, but our chapters are so large right now that they’re not really able to do that,” McCarter said.

Once selected by the committee, one of the two organizations will begin colonizing in the fall of 2012 and the second will arrive on campus in the fall of 2014, McCarter said.

The final two organizations may be announced to the campus as early as October; however, an exact date is uncertain at this point.
