It all started when Pedro Alejandro Wunderlich made hitting the big, red snooze button on his iPad an all-too-common occurrence.
Six weeks of 24 hour-a-day work and more than 35,000 App Store downloads later, he is helping people shake themselves awake.
Wunderlich came up with the idea for Wake N Shake after his snoozing addiction came to an all-time low when he actually missed a class because of it.
“After like an hour of snoozing I felt so guilty, like I had committed a crime,” Wunderlich said.
The premise of Wake N Shake is simple. IPhone, iPod and iPad users wake up to one of many possible ringtones and have to shake it to turn it off.
“There is no snooze button. There is no mercy. That’s why we call it the merciless alarm clock,” Wunderlich said.
The app is available in a rookie version, which has fewer alarm noises and doesn’t have the “merciless” setting. The 99-cent pro version features 24 alarm sounds and the merciless setting for the pro shakers.
Wunderlich said in a TCU News Now exclusive that his new version will have the ability for users to share wake up experiences with other Wake N Shake users.
“Just imagine you wake up at 5:00 in the morning and you can see other people that are waking up at 5:00 in the morning, and you can share a small message, just a one-liner that just says “good morning, Wake N Shakers.”
Once the Apple version is bug-free, he said they will release the app for Android phones. In the app store, Wake N Shake currently has a 4.5 out of 5-star rating from users.
Wunderlich said he plans to make a living off creating and releasing new innovative apps.
He would not give details on the next project, but he said it will change the way people share information between iPhones and Android devices forever.
