Boo at the Zoo will be held this weekend at the Fort Worth Zoo, and some university organizations are helping with the event.
Boo at the Zoo is the 20th annual family-friendly halloween event at the Fort Worth Zoo, Remekca Owens, public relations manager at the Fort Worth Zoo said. Boo at the Zoo features carnival-style games, interactive stage shows, a live Wild Wonders animal show, a craft station and trick-or-treating, Owens said.
The National Residence Hall Honorary on-campus chapter is helping with Boo at the Zoo this year, said Ryan Murray, vice president of Social and Service Initiatives for NRHH.
NRHH is responsible for service and recognition of different university departments, and the organization also does community service events.
Murray, a junior entrepreneurial management major, said this was the first year NRHH has worked with Boo at the Zoo and saw it as a good chance to break out of the university bubble and help the people of Fort Worth.
NRHH has an area set up where kids could come play games and receive candy.
“It was nice to see the kids happy,” Murray said.
Eta lota Sigma is another organization that is helping with Boo at the Zoo. The organization is a faith-based sorority that requires its members to participate in outside philanthropy projects, Katie McGee, vice president standing of HIS, said.
McGee said the sorority has helped with Boo at the Zoo the past four years and would help again this year. Eta Iota Sigma decided to work with Boo at the Zoo because it was expected, and it has always been a great local event where members could interact with local families.
“It’s a great opportunity to shine your light and open their eyes to the things TCU is doing,” McGee said.
She said members helped out at different stations or wherever they were needed. McGee helped with Boo at the Zoo this past weekend in the craft area.
According to the Fort Worth Zoo’s website, Boo at the Zoo will continue this weekend from noon to 5 p.m. Friday through Sunday. Boo at the Zoo features Halloween decorations, events, games, candy and zoo animals.
