Frogs lose to Wyoming 2-1 in double-overtime

The TCU women’s soccer team could not get ahead of Wyoming on Wednesday, dropping a 2-1 decision to the Cowgirls in double-overtime at the Mountain West Women’s Soccer Championships in Albuquerque, N.M.

The loss eliminated the Frogs from the conference tournament and dropped their record to 7-10-1. TCU entered Wednesday as the sixth, and last, seed in the MWC bracket.

Wyoming’s Liz O’Reilly scored the game-winning goal in the second overtime of the game for the Cowgirls.

Freshman Natalie Werner notched the Frogs’ lone goal of the afternoon. Werner’s goal came in the 31st minute and tied the game at 1-1. The score stayed tied the remainder of regulation and through the first overtime, until O’Reilly found the back of the net after breaking away from TCU defenders off a throw-in in the 101st minute.

The two teams had to battle through tough playing conditions—game-time temperatures hovered around 44 degrees.

Freshman goalkeeper Alicen Wright made five saves for the Frogs. Senior forward Jordan Calhoun was held scoreless in her final match as a Horned Frog, but led the team with three shots on goal.

As a team, Wyoming outshot TCU 14-13.

With the win, the Cowgirls advanced to second round play, where they’ll take on San Diego State on Friday at 2 p.m. CST.
