Coming off a big 36-35 win over No. 5 Boise State last Saturday, the football team heads home to face Colorado State. Here’s a quick look at some matchups between the Frogs and the Rams:

Quarterbacks:
The Rams could become one of four programs to start a true freshman at quarterback in back-to-back seasons. No matter how you slice it, Casey Pachall will be the best quarterback on the field on Saturday. Pachall’s 473 yards last weekend against Boise State announced to the world that Casey Pachall was for real.

Running backs:
Expect the Frogs to get back to running the football this week. Ed Wesley and Waymon James should have big weeks against a Colorado State defense that has already given up nearly 2,000 yards rushing to opponents this season. Chris Nwoke will carry the load for CSU.

Wide Receivers:
The TCU wide receivers shined last week against Boise. Josh Boyce shone brightly, and Brandon Carter saved Casey Pachall on the Frogs final TD. Antoine Hicks and Jonathan Jones also had big games, as seniors should.

Offensive line:
Both offensive lines average 301 pounds, but TCU’s line has not been topped by any opponents that have played this season.
Advantage: TCU

Defensive line:
Stansly Maponga is a future pro, but CSU has Nordly Capi, who has five sacks on the season. The difference here is the impact that TCU freshmen Jon Lewis and Chuck Hunter will make on this game.

Linebackers:
Gary Patterson said at his weekly press conference that the linebackers were the glue that held this defense together early in the season. Tank Carder is making impact plays, but Kenny Cain may be the defense’s most valuable player standing in for Tanner Brock. Cain is second on the team with 54 tackles this season. Mike Orakpo, Shaquil Barrett and James Skelton are CSU’s best unit.

Secondary:
My, how they have improved. They bent but didn’t break last week versus Boise State, and the Frogs have a chance to get interceptions 8, 9 and 10 this week against Colorado State. CSU will start a freshman and sophomore in its secondary.

Intangibles:
The biggest difference in this game is that TCU is fighting to get its name into the BCS bowl conversation. Meanwhile, Colorado State has lost 6 of its last 7 games.

Prediction:
The Frogs suffer no letdowns here. Expect the Frogs to put the hurt on the Rams as they take another step toward the conference title. TCU wins 45-10.
