Evans’ charge could impact status on football team

TCU athletic officials were quiet Tuesday, one day after kicker Ross Evans was charged with criminal trespassing of a habitation.
Director of Athletics Media Relation Mark Cohen did not respond to questions on Evans’ status on the team or if he would receive disciplinary actions. Athletics Director Chris del Conte said in a statement Monday that TCU was still gathering information on the situation.
Head coach Gary Patterson, whose weekly Tuesday press conference was not scheduled because of the Frogs’ bye week, has yet to talk with the media on the issue. Patterson’s next scheduled media appearance is next Tuesday at 12:30 p.m.
Attempts to reach Evans’ parents’ home went unanswered.
If disciplinary actions are taken on Evans, there’s a chance, with just two games left in the season, that the senior could be dismissed or at least suspended for TCU’s home finale against UNLV Dec. 3.
So, with Evans’ future in doubt, who do the Frogs have lined up to replace the four year starter?
Meet Ryan Denucci.
Denucci, who redshirted as a true freshman in 2010, is the only other TCU kicker to see action this season, coming in for 12 kickoffs, the last being a 70-yarder against Colorado State on Saturday. The Austin native has yet to kick a field goal or extra point in his college career. Denucci earned second team all-district honors as a senior at L.C. Anderson High School in 2009.
Hans Ingold, a true freshman from Nolan Catholic High School in Fort Worth, is another kicker listed on TCU’s roster and has not seen game action in his first year on campus.
Evans was named Mountain West Special Teams Player of the Week Monday and holds the conference’s all-time scoring record.
