The men’s basketball team returns to Daniel-Meyer Coliseum Wednesday to host the Lamar Cardinals at 7 p.m.

The Frogs (4-2) finished the first road trip of the season Saturday, upending Houston Saturday 81-80 on senior J.R. Cadot’s buzzer-beating layup. TCU will look to improve to 3-0 at home.

“We’re still figuring out how to win,” said head coach Jim Christian. “We’ve got some guys who are trying to figure it out, but the main thing is we got a road win, and that was important for our team to build confidence on and play.”

The Frogs are spreading the ball around this season, dishing out 14 assists per game. Four Frogs are averaging over 10 points per game. Senior Hank Thorns’ 12.3 points and 4.8 assists per game are both team-highs. Cadot, second on the team with 11.2 points, has been excellent on the boards averaging eight rebounds per game.

“I think we are playing the right way,” said Christian. “Guys are making the extra pass; guys are moving the basketball. When we make shots, we’ve been very, very good.”

On defense, the Frogs are forcing 23.3 turnovers per game and are holding teams to 66.3 points per game.

Lamar (4-2), of the Southland Conference, enters the matchup on a three-game win streak. The Cardinals won their last outing 85-65 at Tennessee Tech.

“They’re a good basketball team,” said Christian. “They’ve won two games in a row on the road, and they’re one of the best rebounding teams in the country.”

The Cardinals have out-rebounded their opponents 247-215 this season. Devon Lamb and Charlie Harper are both pulling in eight rebounds a game. Lamar also shares the ball well, averaging 13 assists per game. Anthony Miles leads the cardinals with 16.9 points and 4.3 assists per game.

“It’s going to be a challenge for us,” said Christian. “It’s one of those forty minute games. You got to find a way to play hard and execute for forty minutes.”
