The TCU men’s basketball team will be giving away white replica jerseys to the first 1,000 students in attendance at the Frogs’ game against Texas Tech Dec. 6, Assistant Director of Basketball Marketing Evan Spoon said.

Head coach Jim Christian said the free jerseys are a way to give back to the students and encourage them to have a presence at the games, especially Tuesday’s as it is the Frogs first matchup with a Big 12 team since announcing it will join the conference.

“With the jerseys, we want the student body to realize how important they are to us,” Christian said. “We also want the students to buy into being the 6th man. The students are so important to us, and they give us needed energy and a boost.”

The jerseys will have the number six on the front.

Spoon said the giveaway is part of a new basketball marketing initiative led by a student committee designed to better promote basketball games to the university. Members of the committee were disappointed in the lack of interest and attendance at men’s basketball games last season and decided to take action on the issue, Spoon said.

“The student committee started with a group of students that e-mailed me and said ‘hey, we don’t like the environment [at games], we are seeing things that we don’t like and we can change it,” Spoon said.
