The University of Memphis has hired TCU offensive coordinator Justin Fuente as its new head coach, the Memphis Commercial-Appeal reported Wednesday night.
According to the report, Fuente will be introduced at a noon press conference Tuesday.
Fuente, 35, will replace Larry Porter, who was fired last week after leading the Tigers to a 3-21 record in two years at the helm.
Fuente joined the TCU staff in 2007 as a running backs coach and was promoted to co-offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach in 2009.
The TCU offense set single-season school records for points scored (498), total offense (5,937 yards), touchdowns (65), and first downs (311) in Fuente's first season as co-offensive coordinator.
The Tulsa, Okla. native played two seasons at Oklahoma (1996-97) before finishing up his career at Murray State, where he set 11 school records as a quarterback and was a finalist for the Walter Payton Award, given to the nation's top Division 1-AA player.
