Lady Frogs to travel to Boise

The TCU women’s basketball team will continue the Mountain West Conference by playing Boise State on the road Saturday at the Taco Bell Arena.

TCU (8-10 overall, 1-2 MWC) will look to bounce back after Wednesday’s 72-57 home loss to UNLV.

This will be the second conference road trip for the Lady Frogs this season. They are 0-1 on the road in the Mountain West after dropping their conference opener at San Diego State.

“Every game is important,” head coach Jeff Mittie said. “You try to take care of your home court. We have given one up so now it makes these couple road games even more important.”

Boise State (11-7 overall, 2-1 MWC) suffered its first conference loss to Colorado State Tuesday. The Lady Broncos are led by senior guard Kati Isham’s 15.7 points per game, second in the Mountain West.

Boise State also has two rebounders in the league’s top 15. Senior forward Nicole Brady ranks No. 5, pulling in 7.3 boards per contest and junior forward Lauren Lenhardt is No. 12 with 5.8 boards per contest.

The team boasts the best scoring average in the conference at 71.7 points per game. They have hit the 80 point mark seven times this season.

“They’ve scored very high points at times,” Mittie said. “They’ve been 75, 80 points at times. They look to me, the little bit I’ve seen, like a five-person motion team. So they can spread you out and shoot the basketball. They’re not as athletic as UNLV, not as physical as UNLV, but certainly a very skilled team.”

Freshman guard Natalie Ventress continues to lead the Lady Frogs in scoring with 11.6 per game, putting her at No. 12 in the conference. Sophomore center Latricia Lovings is pulling in a team high 4.4 boards per game.

Mittie said Ventress has been the most consistent freshman for TCU.

On defense, TCU has garnered 8.8 steals per game and has held teams to a conference best .339 shooting.

This will be the fourth meeting between the Lady Frogs and Lady Broncos. In March 2008, the Lady Frogs won the last matchup at the second round of the Women’s National Invitational Tournament in Fort Worth.

Boise State holds an edge with a 1-2 record over TCU.
