Men’s basketball takes on Falcons

The TCU men’s basketball team will host the Air Force Falcons tonight at Daniel-Meyer Coliseum.
TCU (11-7 overall, 1-2 MWC) defeated Boise State last Saturday. The Frogs started the game slow but picked it up in the end with 10 offensive possessions to seal the victory.
Last game was one of two comeback victories this season in which TCU trailed by 10 or more points. After an 0-2 series against Air Force last season, the Horned Frogs will play for their first win against the Falcons in almost two years.
Junior forward Garlon Green said, “We need to try to stay together as a team, stay positive and keep pushing through it.”
The Falcons (11-5 overall, 1-2 MWC) outrank the Frogs in Mountain West Conference play in regards to scoring margin, scoring defense and field goal percentage.
TCU holds a 8-2 record at DMC, and will look to even its conference record with a win. The Falcons lost their second straight game to San Diego State, 57-44.
Taylor Broekhuis led Air Force against San Diego State with 16 points and seven rebounds while Mike Fitzgerald scored 14 points. Junior guard Michael Lyons is the Falcons’ top scorer and averages 14.5 points per game.
Senior guard Hank Thorns is the top scorer for TCU with an average 12.9 points per game.
“[The Falcons] tend to hold the ball,” Thorns said. “We need to stay disciplined defensively and we should be fine.”
Thorns is ranked in the top 10 in the Mountain West for assists, scoring and 3-pointers.
The Frogs will look for a solid offensive contribution from Green and sophomore forward Amric Fields. Fields is currently ranked 20th in the Mountain West with 10.3 points per game.
Green has been hot from the free throw line making 85 percent of his 54 attempts this season.
TCU has been preparing for Wednesday’s game by watching their own film and studying plays, sophomore guard Chris Zurcher said.
“We always start out slow and come back in the last five minutes. If we don’t come out slow, and come out as good as we play at the end of the game, then we wouldn’t even get down in the first place and have to try to get back up,” Zurcher said.
The team had confidence in itself for the game against the Falcons, he said.
“If we come out strong then the only obstacle is our self,” Zurcher said.
Air Force is finishing up their two-game road trip at TCU after a 57-44 loss at San Diego State last Saturday.
