University Christian Church has partnered with Broadway Baptist Church and TCU Extended Education to host the ninth annual Reel Religion Film Festival this Friday and Saturday.

The film festival will feature showings of a diverse selection of 18 films for all ages that include contemporary, classic, foreign and family-friendly films. Following each film, a brief discussion will be led by discussion leaders to engage the audience in a conversation about the religious and faith issues highlighted in the film Karen Parker, Reel Religion committee chairperson, said.

The event began as a way to allow the community to connect religion to culture through the art of film Darren Middleton, TCU religion professor and Reel Religion committee chairperson, said.

“[There are] a broad variety of films that are highly saturated with highly symbolic, deep and meaningful messages which very competent and exciting leaders will facilitate, hopefully, stimulating discussion,” Middleton said.

The film festival will be free and open to the public Parker said. In the past, the event has received response not only from members of the host organizations but from TCU students and members of the Fort Worth community.

Popcorn, coffee and water will be provided throughout all film showings at no cost. Attendees also have the opportunity to purchase a catered lunch on Saturday, Jan. 28 from Potbelly Sandwich Shop at an additional cost but paid reservations must be made by Thursday, Jan. 26 Parker said.
