TCU men’s basketball team looking for second straight conference win

TCU will fight for a second straight win in the Mountain West Conference against the San Diego State Aztecs.

The Frogs are now 13-8 overall, and after defeating Wyoming 58-52 Wednesday night, are 3-3 in the MWC. The defeat served as the end of Wyoming’s four-game win streak on the road, while adding to the Frogs five-straight win streak at home.

Senior forward Craig Williams led in scoring with 13 points, while sophomore forward Amric Fields had 10 and senior guard Hank Thorns contributed 12. The Frogs were 45.7 percent shooting from the field.

San Diego State (19-3 overall, 5-1 MWC) also got a win at home Wednesday night, beating Boise State 58-56. The Aztecs came back from a 12-point deficit early in the second half, only to go on a 14-0 run against the Broncos.

The last-minute victory was sealed after junior guard Chase Tapley and sophomore guard Jamaal Franklin each put in a free throw with under 17 seconds to play. Franklin led the team with 16 points, Tapley with 14.

Going into the game, TCU appears the underdog. San Diego State is currently ranked No. 17 in the nation.

Because of the Aztec’s four guard line-up with players such as Tapley and Franklin, TCU will have to play consistent defense and force San Diego to take contested jump shots.
