Men’s tennis
The men’s tennis team split a pair of matches over the weekend. The Frogs fell 4-1 to No. 14 Mississippi State on the road Saturday but bounced back the next day, beating No. 49 Alabama 4-3 Sunday. Freshman Facundo Lugones was TCU’s only winner Friday night, sweeping MSU’s Zach White 7-6, 6-4. Due to bad weather, the match had to be stopped after singles action and moved 80 miles down the road to Tuscaloosa, Ala., home of the Crimson Tide. Nick Chappell, J.T. Sundling, Daniel Sanchez and Lugones all notched victories for TCU in its win over Alabama on Sunday, which improved the Frogs to 2-3 on the season. TCU will be back in action Saturday when it hosts Texas Tech. First serve is scheduled for 1 p.m.
Men’s golf
The 46th-ranked Frogs finished 10-under-par to place sixth in the Amer Ari Invitational on Friday at Waikoloa Beach Resort in Hawaii. Freshman Julien Brun fired a career-best 65 in the final round to finish 5-under-par for the tournament, good for a tie for 13th place overall. Johan de Beer was the only other Frog in red figures, shooting a 73 Friday to finish 2-under-par for the week and a tie for 33rd overall. The Amer Ari featured 11 of the nation’s top 50 programs, including No. 1 Texas, which finished first in team competition, shooting 30-under-par, five strokes better than second-place USC.
Rifle
TCU holds the nation’s longest winning streak to 28, beating Air Force 4695-4618 on Saturday in Colorado Springs, Colo., and improving to 9-0 on the season. Frog riflers Sarah Scherer (587) and Sarah Beard (583) finished first and second, respectively. TCU’s Catherine Green and Caitlin Morrissey finished fourth and fifth overall, respectively. TCU will be back in action Saturday when it travels to El Paso for a match with University of Texas at El Paso.
