Track and field, rifle pick up wins over the weekend

Here's a quick recap of how some TCU teams fared over the weekend:

Track & Field

The track and field program picked up a pair of field event wins at the Texas A&M Invitational on Saturday. Junior Cameron Tabor won his third shot put title of the year. Senior Whitney Gipson and freshman Lorraine Ugen earned the top two spots in long jump. Junior Kelsey Samuels placed second in shot put.

Women’s Golf

On Sunday, the Frogs were tied for seventh after the first round of the Lady Puerto Rico Classic in Rio Grande, Puerto Rico. Seniors Brooke Beeler and Rachael Raastad led TCU with 75s. On Monday, freshman Alexandra Bonetti shot a team-best 74 while Beeler carded an eagle to lead TCU. The No. 33 Horned Frogs are in 12th place and heading into the final round today.

Women's Basketball

The Lady Frogs are 12-12 overall and 5-4 in Mountain West play after losing 61-59 to the Rams. It was the first time TCU has lost to Colorado State since 1999, breaking a 13-game winning streak. Freshman guard Natalie Ventress tied a career-high with 23 points and eight field goals. Ventress has led the Lady Frogs in scoring 13 times this season. In four games this season, Ventress has scored 20 or more points.

Rifle

The women’s rifle team beat University of Texas-El Paso 4683-4644 to claim its 29th straight regular season victory on the road. Junior Sarah Scherer shot a 598 to win air rifle, while junior Sarah Beard took smallbore with a score of 586. TCU had five of the top six scores in air rifle. The Lady Frogs improved to 10-0  for the 2011-12 season.
