Sorority sends gifts to SafeHaven children

The Lambda Theta Alpha Latin Sorority has been collecting birthday party supplies to benefit the children of SafeHaven of Tarrant County.

The SafeHaven shelter strives to end domestic violence for both women and children through safety, support, prevention and social change, according to their official website.

Karla Rodriguez, service chair of Lambda Theta Alpha, said the program would help mothers provide birthday parties that their kids might not have otherwise.

The boxes could be creatively decorated and provide a basic kit of birthday party necessities such as balloons, decorations, paper plates, tablecloths and birthday cake mix, Rodriguez said.

Rodriguez would take the boxes to Barb Reese, the In-Kind donations Coordinator at SafeHaven, who would then deliver the boxes to the shelter.

“This is a project that has never been done before,” said Reese. “I think it will go a long way to make that child’s day a little more special.”

Rodriguez said the sorority is seeking help from members of the Greek community and the TCU community as well as from individuals who are interested in the project.
