The TCU women’s basketball team will play in Las Vegas, Nev. tonight and plan to avenge their loss from the last time they played the University of Nevada- Las Vegas.
The last time the two teams met was last January in the Daniel-Meyer Coliseum. Both teams are currently 5-4 in conference play with UNLV ahead of TCU in the Mountain West standings.
“UNLV is a really good team, so we will have to be ready to play from the opening tip,” Jeff Mittie, head women’s basketball coach, said.
TCU leads the series 15-3s against UNLV. The Lady Frogs’ loss in January was only the second loss they have had against the Lady Rebels in regular season; UNLV had not defeated TCU in regular season play since 2006.
Senior guard Antoinette Thompson said this game would be an important one for the team.
“We are really looking forward to our game [tonight] against UNLV,” Thompson said. “They beat us the first time around, so we have to come out and play our game.”
Thompson also said she thought the team was ready for the challenge.
Sophomore guard Meagan Henson agreed.
“This is going to be a very physical game,” Henson said. “They are going to pressure us and we need to be ready.”
The last game TCU played was Saturday against Colorado State. TCU lost 61-59, and Colorado State’s win was their first against TCU since 1999.
Freshman guard Natalie Ventress, who has led TCU in scoring 13 times this season, tied her career high of 23 points according to GoFrogs.com. She has scored 20 plus points in four games so far this season.
