Preston Morrison retired 10 straight batters in his college debut and Michael Resnick knocked a go-ahead RBI double for his first career hit, as the TCU baseball team beat Ole Miss 5-3 Sunday afternoon at Lupton Stadium.

The win was the Frogs' first of the season after dropping a 7-4 decision to the Rebels Friday night. Saturday's game was rained out.

Resnick's double off the right-field wall, which drove in two runs, came when the Frogs needed it most.

TCU starting pitcher Stefan Crichton held the Rebels scoreless until the fifth inning as the Frogs held a 3-0 lead.

That's when things started to get rough for the sophomore.

Ole Miss had runners on the corners with two outs when Alex Yarbrough singled down the right-field line, driving in a run to get the Rebels on the board. TCU head coach Jim Schlossnagle pulled Crichton and brought in true freshman Brandon Finnegan.

The Fort Worth native wouldn't get an out in his college debut.

Finnegan gave up two straight hits that evened the score at 3-3 before handing it over to Morrison, who struck out Ole Miss catcher Will Allen on nine pitches to get the Frogs out of the inning.

TCU regained its lead quickly.

Brett Johnson drew a two-out walk, advance to second and third on wild pitches then scored two batters later when Resnick, a true freshman, took a 1-2 pitch off the right-field wall drive in Johnson and Davy Wright and give the Frogs a 5-3 lead.

Morrison wouldn't give it up.

The true freshman retired the next nine batters, striking out two and giving way to closer Kaleb Merck in the ninth inning, who notched the save in his first appearance since June 26, 2010.

Morrison, whose fastball topped out at 83 mph, said the movement on his pitches Sunday was key.

"It's another way to keep them off balance," said Morrison, who recorded the win Sunday. "Keeping a straight ball is going to get you hit. With that movement, I can be able to get ground balls like I did today."

Schlossnagle said Morrison's level of maturity makes him special.

"Ever since he's walked on campus, he's been that guy," Schlossnagle said. "He knows what he's doing and he's fearless. He's got great presence."

Schlossnagle said Morrison will be most effective against top-notch teams like Ole Miss, who aren't used to seeing low-80s.

"He's just a strike thrower," Schlossnagle said. "He's the kind of pitcher, because he doesn't throw very hard, the better the team he faces, the more success he's going to have ."

TCU will be back in action Tuesday at Baylor. First pitch is scheduled for 4:05 p.m.
