The TCU Men’s Lacrosse team has secured its spot in the Lone Star Alliance playoffs in April, midfielder Luke Lossau said.

With a 15-4 win over Texas A&M on Sunday, the team is currently 5-0 and is ranked first in the Division I Lone Star Alliance conference as part of the Men’s Collegiate Lacrosse Association.
The MCLA is a national organization of non-NCAA, college lacrosse programs with 213 teams in two divisions, across 10 conferences, according to the MCLA website.

The Division I LSA conference teams include SMU, Baylor, Oklahoma, North Texas and Texas Tech in the north, as well as TCU. The south includes the University of Texas, Texas State, Louisiana State, Texas A&M and Rice.

As part of Division I, Lossau said the team faced tough opponents for every match.
However, he also said Sunday’s match proved how well the team worked together and was a good inspiration for the rest of the season.

“This was our first time to ever beat A&M,” Lossau said. “Going into the match we knew we were up against a tough opponent.”

Head coach Mike Smith said the fact that the team defeated powerhouse A&M, a team that had been in the playoffs the last four years, was a testament to the members’ focused preparation.

“Our confidence is really starting to come out in our games,” he said. “TCU Lacrosse is beginning to do stuff we’ve never done before.”

Smith said he wants to make the team’s success a tradition for years to come, while continually striving toward playoffs every season.

Attack Luke Sproull said he would like to see more people come out to watch upcoming games.

“We’re really playing our best games this season,” he said. “We’re working well together as a team, and I think the campus should come out and see that for themselves.”

TCU plays sixth-ranked Texas Tech (1-7) March 9 in Memphis, Tenn. The next home game is against second-ranked SMU (3-0) April 14.
