The university strives to follow its educational mission by making classroom usage more efficient.
Chancellor Victor Boschini said the university conducted a study that showed some rooms could be used up to three times more efficiently and discussed the addition of more 8 a.m. and Friday classes as a possible solution.
The university is taking respectable action to improve the classroom experience and accommodate the lifestyles of all students.
The increase of classes would allow more classes to be offered, and as a result, there would be fewer chances of spots running out for classes.
If non-traditional students have night jobs or families and need to take morning classes, the additional classes would allow the students flexibility and the ability to graduate on time.
However, there definitely would be challenges in implementing new classes and how the new times would affect students.
College students typically do not go out of their way to take early morning classes. If it is necessary for a student to take an available 8 a.m. class, there might be problems with low attendance rates or the level of engagement of the students.
As for out-of-state or international students, Friday classes might be a big obstacle or a sacrifice in order to go home to see families during breaks.
There are always going to be challenges when a change happens, but the upcoming changes would help the university become bigger and better.
