An expert on creativity will be coming to the university April 18 to speak on the subject.
Members of the House of Student Representatives unanimously passed a bill Tuesday evening to set aside $6,000 to fund Sir Ken Robinson’s speaker series. Members of the House also unanimously passed a bill that redistributed House seats among the colleges for the 2012 elections.
According to the legislation, Robinson is considered an international leader in the field of creativity and education and has received many awards for his work.
House members said over 600 people have said they would come to listen to Robinson speak.
Jennifer Villyard, the chair of the Academic Affairs committee, said she thought a speaker like Robinson would be very helpful to the student body because creativity is important in the world.
Villyard also said she was glad the House passed the bill because it showed that the Student Government Association was listening to students by supporting an academic speaker coming to the university.
Students had said in the student body survey that they wanted to see more speakers come to the university, she said.
In other business, the House voted to redistribute representative seats among the academic colleges.
According to the legislation, the College of Fine Arts lost one representative and the John V. Roach Honors College gained one representative
There are a total of 48 representatives in the House, according to the legislation.
Jansen Harrison, the chair of the Elections and Regulations committee, said the redistribution happens yearly.
The number of representatives for each college was calculated by determining the number of people in each college and how that number compares to the entire student population, he said.
