TCU Hornfest would give students the opportunity to become better horn players and to improve their skills.

Heather Test, French horn instructor said Hornfest will feature performances and master classes from artists such as the Four Hornsmen of the Apocolypse and Thomas Bacon, a renowned hornist.

Students, professors and guests would enjoy the Four Hornsmen’s performance because of their audience interaction and combination of horn music and comedy, Test said.

In addition to the performances, Hornfest will feature both college and high school level competitions, Test said. The winners will receive gift cards to Pender’s Music and spots in the master classes, she said. 

At the end of the festival, all participants will partake in an ensemble performance with the guest artists, giving students an opportunity to develop their skills and become better performers, she said.

“It’s important because it’s a great thing for horn players in the area to come to,” said Robyn Coad, a senior instrumental music major. “You get the experience playing together and hearing really great players play.”

Vendors and Pender’s Music are sponsoring the event and students will have an opportunity to network with Yamaha vendors and musicians, Test said.

TCU students will perform, check in guests, serve food at a reception and help with general tasks, Caiti Beth McKinney, a junior horn performance and history double major  said.

More than 100 people have registered for Hornfest and it serves as an opportunity for TCU to recruit potential students, McKinney said.

Hornfest is scheduled for 11:00 a.m. to 7 p.m. Sunday March 11.
