Men’s tennis team to stay hydrated, focused during match

The match between TCU and No. 23 Tulsa will not be the only competition Friday, as the two teams will compete against the outside elements for their match at Bayard H. Friedman Tennis Center.
The weather will be sunny, and the temperature will be in the 70s throughout the whole day, according to The Weather Channel.
Sophomore Max Stevens said the weather has changed a lot throughout the season, from cold to humid. He said he would be drinking a lot of water to stay hydrated for the match.
It could take a player seven to 10 days to become accustomed to the heat, according to the United States Tennis Association.
Head coach David Roditi had instructed the team to drink a lot of Gatorade at the last match against Columbia, Stevens said.
TCU was unable to overcome Columbia’s momentum as the Frogs lost 6-1 Tuesday. The Lions had a four-match winning streak going into the competition.
TCU has a 5-8 overall record while Tulsa has a 7-7 overall record.
“[I] want to stay 100 percent focused while taking time to earn a team point,” Stevens said. “The team needs to compete hard and play as a team, not as individuals.”
TCU is the third stop on Tulsa’s six game road trip across the country. Tulsa defeated No. 40 Louisville 4-0 in its last match.
The Golden Hurricane has captured five Conference USA Men’s Tennis Athlete of the Week honors this season. Senior Ashley Watling won two awards and junior Clifford Marsland also accepted two awards. Junior Tristan Jackson earned his first honor in February.
The Horned Frogs have accumulated a total of three Mountain West Men’s Tennis Player of the Week awards this season. Freshman Nick Chappell and senior Daniel Sanchez earned honors in February. Freshman Facundo Lugones accepted his honor earlier this month.
