Although No. 14 Alabama is favored in this weekend’s match, the women’s tennis team was up for the challenge, head coach Dave Borelli said.

“It will be a challenge for us, but I really like the challenge,” Borelli said. “And if we’re healthy, we’re a team they’re really going to fear playing.”

Junior Kelsey Sundaram said the team did not need to do anything special to win, except stick to the basics.

“We’re gaining some confidence in ourselves, we’re getting healthier, and our goal is to keep getting better, and to play well on this road trip,” Borelli said.

Right now the team was taking time between matches to work on things individually, Borelli said.  

The team practiced hard and worked on getting in point situations and using positive reinforcement during practice, Sundaram said.

TCU defeated Marquette 6-1 last Sunday. The Lady Frogs earned their third straight win and improved their season record to 7-3.

“A couple of kids struggled a little bit, but I like that they fought,” Borelli said. “The fact that they compete when they are down in a match, and try to make it a match, that’s all I care about.”

The team wanted to get an edge on conference matchups, win the conference and then make it to the NCAA tournament, Borelli said. He said he thought the team would be able to do this.

The Horned Frogs return to the court Sunday to take on Crimson Tide at the University of Alabama Tennis Stadium in Tuscaloosa, Ala.

Alabama won its last match against Arkansas 4-1 to improve its overall record to 9-2.

“I expect that we preform well, that we step up to the plate and give them a run for their money,” Sundaram said.
