The 19th-ranked TCU baseball team had its nine-game winning streak snapped Tuesday night when it lost to No. 23 Texas State 8-4 in San Marcos.
Right-hander Trey Teakell (0-2) was tagged with the loss after starting on the mound for the Horned Frogs and giving up two runs on two hits in two innings pitched. Texas State starter Taylor Black (1-0) was the winning pitcher, throwing 3.2 innings of scoreless ball and holding TCU to just one hit.
The Frogs fell behind early, giving up runs in the three of the first four innings, including four in the fourth, which gave the Bobcats a 7-0 lead.
TCU responded with four runs of its own in the top of the fifth.
Jason Coats singled in Keaton Jones to score the Frogs' first run of the game. Josh Elander followed that up with a double that drove in Coats and Kyle Von Tungeln, who had reached on a single to right field. Derek Odell would triple to bring in Elander.
That was all the Frogs could come up with.
Texas State (14-6) used five pitcher different relief pitchers to hold TCU scoreless the rest of the game. Jeff McVaney notched the five-out save to win the game for the Bobcats.
Von Tungeln led the Frogs with two hits.
TCU had won nine games in a row, last losing on March 2 to Oklahoma State at home.
TCU (11-7) will be back in action Friday night at New Mexico for the first of a three-game series with the Lobos. First pitch is scheduled for 8 p.m. CST.
