The No. 39 women’s golf team will travel to Tempe, Ariz., this weekend for the 38th annual PING/ASU Invitational at Karsten Golf Course.
The three-day invitational will consist of 54 holes, with 18 played each day.
The Lady Frogs will play their first tournament since a 12th-place finish at the LSU Tiger Golf Classic earlier this month.
Head coach Angie Ravaioli-Larkin said the team learned to put things in perspective after the LSU tournament.
“I felt like everybody just wants [the win] really bad which may be over-trying, forcing it a little bit, especially that last round,” Ravaioli-Larkin said.
Senior Brooke Beeler said the team never gave up at the LSU tournament. She said it was a goal for the team to continue not to give up the rest of the season.
TCU will compete against 16 teams in Arizona, nine of which are ranked in the top 25, according to Golfstat rankings. The field includes No. 1 UCLA, No. 3 USC and No. 5 Arizona State.
Ravaioli-Larkin said any team could win the tournament because golf had so much depth to the game.
“Obviously ASU has an advantage being at their home course,” Ravaioli-Larkin said. “They’re a good team. There are a lot of West Coast teams that are good, but I think it’s anybody’s ball game.”
TCU has displayed its depth on the scoreboard since the season began in February. A different individual has led the team in scoring at every tournament.
“That’s how good we are,” Beeler said. “It’s not just about one person. It’s about the whole team, and we showed it at Central District.”
The Lady Frogs should focus on one shot at a time this weekend, Ravaioli-Larkin said. They need to let the tournament unfold and not force things.
Beeler said the team chemistry should be a strength for the five golfers heading to Arizona.
“We won the tournament at Central District together,” Beeler said. “We have a history together, and we know each other. We know how to build off each other on the golf course.”
