The Senseless Acts of Comedy organization will lose two seniors in May who have participated since their first year at the university. For Paige Love and Robert Slack, four years in the organization will soon come to an end.

Although it is sad to see members graduate and move on, Senseless Acts of Comedy evolves with each coming semester, Love said.

Love and Slack said being involved in Senseless Acts of Comedy has helped prepare them for their futures.

“It really teaches you how to listen and how to live life beyond the text because you’re creating these characters on the spot,” Slack, a theatre major, said. “It’s been really helpful for me to determine stronger choices as an actor.”

Love, a film-television-digital media major, said because of SAC, she plans to move to Chicago to pursue her dreams of a comedy career after graduation. No matter what she chooses to do in the future, she said impromptu speaking is something that a person in any career could use.

“It’s just knowing how to think on your feet. It’s always a useful skill,” Love said.
Caring and hands-on is how sophomore film-television-digital media major Grant Moore described the seniors’ leadership styles. Input from members was important to them, as well as trying new things, he said.

Slack said he leads others by setting the correct example. If he is doing something that he believes to be impressive, then he wants others to notice and learn from that, he said.

“When I’m relaying things that I’ve learned in classes and other things, I try to do it in a kind of way that would hit people beyond the improv, that would get them to connect toward life,” Slack said.

Love was Senseless Acts of Comedy’s co-president with senior Judith Schomp. This was Love’s first year holding a leadership role. The role  taught her how to work with people and how to meet everyone’s wants and needs, she said.

Senseless Acts of Comedy may look into implementing changes in the future, Moore said.

“I think we have a lot of tradition in SAC, so I would say that most of the stuff is going to stay the same. I don’t know; we may look into mixing a few things up,” Moore said.

Auditions for the 2012-2013 school year would be held toward the end of April or early May, Love said, but the dates have not been finalized yet.
