While the majority of the university community enjoys time off for the holiday weekend, the TCU baseball team will work hard to avenge two consecutive losses at Lupton Stadium. 

The Frogs fell to last year’s Fort Worth regional champion Dallas Baptist Tuesday night. 

Just as the stadium lights went out in the late innings of the game, the Frogs’ comeback fell short as the team lost 4-3 to the Patriots.

The task does not get any easier as the Frogs host the University of North Carolina-Wilmington for a three-game series. The series begins Thursday due to the holiday weekend. 

The Frogs and Seahawks last met in 2007 with UNC-Wilmington taking the win 10-5.

“They are a really good team,” head coach Jim Schlossnagle said. “They are 10-2 in conference: They are hitting over .300 as a team, fielding .970 as a team and annually a regional team from the East Coast.”

Two weeks ago, the Frogs were on a nine-game winning streak but it was snapped by Texas State on the road in San Marcos. 

“We need to produce some timely hits and right now that has not been the case,” junior catcher Josh Elander said. “We need to play with a lot more energy and keep grinding and getting better.”

TCU is in its fifth game of a 12-game homestand, which should be beneficial to the team. The Frogs are 8-5 at home in Lupton this year. 

TCU has historically relied on pitching to make postseason runs, and Schlossnagle said he maintains that attitude. 

“For me, it all starts with pitching,” Schlossnagle said. 

The team will continue to rely on the young pitching staff, which includes 10 underclassmen, this season, he said.
