After more than 650 people attended the first annual West Berry Block Party last year, founders Kevin Benson, Ted Wick and Bryan Lee planned to use their experience to bring even more people to this year’s block party.  

“The big change this year is that it will be going on for two days, plus we are much more established, we know what we are doing now,” Benson said.

Benson said the party is expecting to bring in 1,000 people over two days. 

On Friday and Saturday, the second annual West Berry Block Party will hit the university streets. This year’s festival will feature different kinds of food, modern art, dance and light shows and local bands and musicians.

Last year, the festival raised $1,500 for Japan’s tsunami relief. This year’s proceeds will go towards Bridges Safehouse, a shelter for abused women in the Dallas/Fort Worth area.

The bands, musicians and DJs performing will play at four venues close to the university: The Cellar, Ol’ Rips, The Aardvark and Stay Wired Coffee Shop. 

Several student bands and musicians will be featured, including Outback Special, The Pajammas, Pi, and Interim. 

Parker Smith, a freshman business marketing major and singer and guitarist for Interim, expressed his excitement for his band’s show Friday night. 

“I’m stoked for this weekend,” he said. “It’s our first year playing the Block Party, and it will provide lots of good exposure for our band.” 

With over 50 bands and musicians on the current line-up, there will be a variety of music ranging from hip-hop to folk singer-songwriters and dubstep.

The block party will also feature an art show Saturday night at Stay Wired Coffee Shop, featuring art from local and student artists.

Two-day pass — $30 

Friday or Saturday pass — $20

Two-day VIP pass — $50

Must be 18 or older to attend. Must be 21 or older to consume alcohol and must have a valid ID when claiming wristbands.
