The women’s tennis team has the chance to clinch the Mountain West championship title if the team wins its match against New Mexico (8-10 overall, 1-5 Mountain West) Saturday.

Head coach Dave Borelli said he was confident about the team’s chances because the whole team was healthy for the first time this semester. 

No. 38 TCU would be entering its last conference match of the season with a 14-5 overall record and 6-0 in conference. The Lady Frogs are on a roll with a seven-match winning streak.

After breaking a four-match losing streak last weekend, the Lobos will enter the match with only one conference win. New Mexico will play its last regular season match at TCU.

Last time in action, TCU earned a 6-1 victory against Colorado State on the road. The Lady Frogs swept the Rams in doubles play and won five of the six singles matches. 

“It’s our last year in the Mountain West and it really establishes the dominance we’ve had in the conference,” Borelli said. 

If the Lady Frogs win on Saturday, they would be the only undefeated team in the conference, he said. TCU has defeated San Diego State, UNLV, Wyoming and Colorado State, all on the road.    

Junior Olivia Smith said she thought the adjustment back to playing at sea level would be the most difficult challenge. In the past seven matches, the team had only played one game at home with the last six matches in high altitude conditions. 

Following the New Mexico match, TCU will play its last match of the season against Rice on Sunday. 

Borelli said the match against Rice would be important because it gave the team the possibility to get an NCAA at-large bid. 

However, the team was working hard to focus on Saturday first, and after the match against New Mexico, it would start thinking about the match against Rice.
