The former president of Colombia, Alvaro Uribe Velez, is scheduled to visit the university Tuesday to speak at the Vicente Fox Forum of World Leaders.

According to the forum press release, the focus of the forum is to allow college and high school students to form connections with former world leaders, to promote leadership development and to provide students with a look at presidential leadership.

Vicente Fox, the former president of Mexico, has hosted the forum since last November.

Velez will be the forum’s third speaker and will speak from 1:30-3 p.m. Tuesday in the Brown-Lupton University Union Auditorium.

After Velez makes some brief remarks, Fox will engage him in a dialog on a variety of issues they faced as world leaders, according to the press release.

James Riddlesperger, a political science professor, said he had been impressed with the speakers the forum attracted.

“President Fox has been wonderful in bringing these world leaders to campus, and former Colombian President Alvaro Uribe Velez is a significant speaker,” Riddlesperger said.

According to the press release, other world leaders scheduled to speak at the forum later in 2012 include former Prime Minister of Spain, Jose Maria Aznar; former President of Poland Lech Walesa; and former President and Prime Minister of Israel, Shimon Peres.
