The TCU baseball team will go for its third win over a top 25 team tonight against No. 9 Texas A&M (28-12) at Lupton Stadium.
Left-hander Brandon Finnegan will get the start on the mound for the Horned Frogs (23-14 overall, 11-4 MWC), who lost 5-3 at San Diego State on Sunday but took the first two games from the Aztecs on Friday and Saturday.
The Aggies are coming off a three-game sweep at the hands of No. 3 Baylor, which improved to 35-7 after winning its 24th straight game Sunday.
TCU beat the Bears at home 9-4 on March 6 and No. 8 Cal State Fullerton 3-2 on Feb. 24 for its other two wins over ranked opponents.
The Frogs had won nine in a row before losing to the SDSU. With New Mexico staying at 9-3 in league action after playing a non-conference series over the weekend, TCU slipped into second place in the Mountain West standings after entering Friday tied with the Lobos.
Tonight’s game will be the first of eight straight at home for the Frogs, who will play a three-game set with Manhattan starting Friday, a mid-week game against Oklahoma next Tuesday and a series with University of New Mexico beginning May 4.
Finnegan (2-3, 3.98 ERA) last started March 25 at UNM, giving up six earned runs in just 1 1/3 innings of work. Since then, the true freshman has been effective coming out of the bullpen, throwing 9.2 scoreless innings.
