It’s official. TCU partied its way into the Big 12 on Saturday night in Cowtown.

"It's so good to have a hometown team as part of the Big 12," Big 12 Commissioner Bob Bowlsby said.

The event late Saturday night, early Sunday morning included guests such as Big 12 Commissioner Bob Bowlsby, TCU alumnus Fort Worth Councilman Dennis Shingleton, TCU coaches such as Gary Patterson, Trent Johnson and more.

"It's been a long time coming,” TCU Athletic Director Chris Del Conte said.

The Big 12 is sure to spark old rivalries between teams such as the University of Texas which TCU will play on Thanksgiving. The move from the Mountain West Conference to the Big 12 has not been the smoothest with TCU’s brief stint in the Big East which resulted in an ongoing lawsuit.

“We fought our way back and we earned our way back,” Del Conte said.

It’s just the start though according to head football coach Gary Patterson.

“We’ve come all this way and we won’t stop now,” Patterson said. “We want to win the Big 12 championship in all sports and a national championship for ourselves.”

TCU fans and alumni were fired up about the event leading several TCU chants. Del Conte talked to the crowd about the fact that TCU’s season tickets are sold out and encouraged those without tickets to still come out to the games.

“I want you to come out and show your support and party like a rockstar” Del Conte said.

TCU Band, SuperFrog, the Frog Horn, cheerleaders and showgirls performed in celebration for the move with fireworks going off at midnight.

The celebration isn’t over though. Del Conte announced there would be a banner with “Welcome to the Big 12” inscribed on it flying around Fort Worth on Sunday.
