Freshman pitcher out for season

A top TCU baseball recruit will miss the 2013 season with an arm injury.

Mitchell Traver, a true freshman from Navasota, will undergo Tommy John surgery Aug. 31, he announced Thursday night via Twitter.

"Friends, I'll make this short: Next Friday, I'll be undergoing TJ surgery to repair a ligament that was injured because of throwing with TOS," Traver tweeted around 9 p.m. Thursday.

Traver, a 6-foot-7 right-hander, was selected by the Houston Astros in the 39th round of the MLB Draft in June. Last spring, Traver pitched for Houston Christian High School. His fastball was clocked at 95 miles an hour, according to Perfect Game, a baseball prospect site.
