Chancellor Victor Boschini stepped to the podium first to begin what he called “an auspicious day” for the university and athletics program.

Other speakers included Board of Trustees Chairman Clarence Scharbauer, Director of Intercollegiate Athletics Chris Del Conte, head football coach Gary Patterson, Student Body President Brent Folan, and senior offensive lineman Blaize Foltz.

Del Conte described the rapid pace at which things have come together for the athletics program over the past three years.

“It was magic,” he said. “And today we have the finest facility in America.”

Patterson said the rewards for the work put into the $164 million stadium renovation go well beyond the football team.

“This renovation changed people’s lives,” Patterson said. “It’s been about the community, it’s about changing young people’s lives and giving them and the alumni something to be proud of.”

The ribbon cutting ceremony was followed by self-guided tours for students, fans and alumni.

The stadium will be filled for the first time Saturday when TCU plays Grambling State. Kickoff is scheduled for 6 p.m. 

As usual, Patterson has a plan for the season ahead in the new stadium.

“Now my job is to go win in it,” he said.
