Senior forward Adrick McKinney scored 16 points Monday to lead TCU to a 75-47 victory over Centenary.
McKinney was one of four Horned Frogs to score in double figures.
Sophomore guard Kyan Anderson scored 10 first-half points, while junior guard Jarvis Ray scored 11 points for the game.
Senior forward Connell Crossland scored 12 points to go along with his team-high 10 rebounds.
Despite this, TCU head coach Trent Johnson said that he thought senior guard Nate Butler was the best player on the floor.
“You see Nate, he’s two-for-four with four points,” coach Johnson said. “But he had three assists that led to baskets and no turnovers and he did a good job defensively.
“He was probably the most important player of the game.”
Butler was given the assignment of guarding Centenary’s top scorer, Jonathan Blount, after Blount scored the first seven points for the Gents.
Blount finished with a game-high 17 points, but was held to only five points in the second half.
TCU took control of the game midway through the first half when it went on a 19-3 run, building its lead as high as 17.
McKinney took over in the second half, when he scored 11 of his 16 points.
McKinney converted a three-point play with 12 minutes left in the game, ending a run of seven straight points for the senior forward.
Anderson and junior forward Amric Fields, TCU’s leading scorer entering the night, were both used sparingly in the second half as neither played more than five minutes after intermission.
TCU, holding a significant size advantage over Centenary, outrebounded the Gents 41-26.
The Frogs also exploited their size advantage over the Gents offensively, scoring 52 points in the paint.
Anderson said that he thinks the players have bought in to Johnson’s system, and he expects the team to keep improving under it.
With the win tonight, the Frogs start the year 2-0 for the fourth straight season.
Dating back to the start of last season, TCU is now 16-3 when playing at home.
TCU will play SMU Thursday at 7 p.m. in Daniel-Meyer Coliseum.
