Amric Fields went down on the first play of the game with an apparent knee injury. Senior guard Nate Bunder Lind came in for him and led the team in scoring with 8 points (tied with Garlon Green).
TCU shot 47.8 percent from the field in the first half compared to 45.5 percent by the Mustangs. SMU also hit four 3-pointers and made 9-of-10 free throws compared to only 2-of-5 for the Frogs.
SMU started the game off with an 11-4 run capped with a fastbreak dunk by sophomore center Cannen Cunningham. A 3-pointer made by Jalen Jones got the lead up to 10 before TCU responded.
TCU then got the lead down to 1 after a tip-in by Garlon Green with 2:28 left in the half. SMU responded with consecutive 3-pointers by Brian Bernardi and Jalen Jones to put SMU’s lead back at 7. Jones led the Mustangs in scoring in the first half with 11.
