The TCU men’s basketball team held off a late surge from Southern Utah and defeated the Thunderbirds 61-52 Thursday evening.
Sophomore guard Kyan Anderson led the Frogs with 21 points and six assists. Sophomore forward Devonta Abron continued his strong season scoring a season high 17 points and also grabbed five rebounds.
Junior guard Thomas Montigel scored five points in his first career start for TCU, including a corner jump shot to expand the Horned Frog lead to 30-25 before halftime.
The Horned Frogs (6-2) led 31-28 going in to halftime, but Abron rallied the Frogs with 13 second half points.
Senior forward Connell Crossland did not score in the game but blocked a late second half Southern Utah layup to secure the win.
Next up for head coach Trent Johnson’s squad is a Dec. 4 contest against the University of Houston from Daniel-Meyer Coliseum. Big 12 play begins on Jan. 5 against Texas Tech.
