The men’s basketball team will face a Houston team that head coach Trent Johnson said is more talented than the two teams that have beaten the Frogs this season.

“Houston is really good,” Johnson said. “They're probably more talented. I'm not saying they're better, but they're definitely more talented than the two teams we've lost to, so we've got our work cut out for us.”

The Cougars won their first five games of the season, but have dropped the last two in a row. They fell to Texas A&M 70-58 on Saturday and also lost by one point to a Prairie View A&M team that TCU beat earlier this season.

Forward TaShawn Thomas leads the Cougars with 16.6 points and 10.7 rebounds per game. Guard Joseph Young, guard Jherrod Stiggers and forward Danuel House also averaged over 10 points per game for Houston.   

Houston has outrebounded its opponent in every win except for a two-point win over San Jose State. The Frogs struggled on the boards against Southern Utah, losing the rebounding battle 36-29.

TCU beat Southern Utah 61-52 and improved to 6-2. Guard Kyan Anderson has led the Frogs in scoring for the past two games, including a 21 point outing against Southern Utah.  Forward Devonta Abron posted his fourth double-figure scoring game with a career-high 17 points.

The Frogs have not had much success behind the 3-point line this season, hitting 27.5 percent of their attempts. They went a combined 3-of-18 over the last three games. Houston has hit 36.6 percent of its 3-pointers this season, including 8-of-21 against Texas A&M.

Tuesday’s game will bring the No. 1 scoring offense in Conference USA (80.9 points per game) to Fort Worth to face the Big 12’s No. 1 scoring defense (52.6 points). TCU has held six opponents under 40 percent shooting this season.

TCU and Houston will tip-off at 8 p.m. in Daniel-Meyer Coliseum. The game can be seen on Fox Sports Southwest.
